During testing, the infrared image reveals an electronic component that is pulsed with a current pulse. A clearly visible hot spot is an indication of a faulty part. The purpose of quality control is to check whether the wire is defective or broken. To do this, a pulse current is applied to the resistor for a short time (a few ms) and a thermal image is taken at a precisely defined time after the current is applied. Defects in the wire lead to local temperature increases (hot spots). The thermal image is analyzed in a fully automated process using IrControl software and a “good” or “bad” signal is given as appropriate.
